Indian Duo reached in Final of Asian Billiards 2008

Indian Duo Pankaj Advani and Rupesh Shah entered the Finals of the 7th Asian Billiards Championship in contrasting style. Whilst Advani, the four times and current IBSF World Billiards Champion routed Myanmar's Aung San Oo 4-0, Rupesh, the current Point Format IBSF World Champion staged a remarkable comeback to win 4-3 against Thailand's Praput after being down 1-3 to make it an all Indian Final.

The packed hall at the Kandawgyi Palace Hotel were treated to an opening unfinished break of 100 by 22 year old Advani who went on to exhibit his command on the table to cruise to an emphatic victory. Aung was visibly overawed by the reputation of his opponent and the fact that he was performing under a severe pressure imposed by the expectation of the home crowd, which included the Myanmar's Minister of Sports.

Not to be left behind, Rupesh Shah like his compatriot opened up a 1-0 lead against Praput C of Thailand, the current Indoor Asian Games Gold Medalist, with a carefully compiled unfinished 100. Unperturbed by the quick setback of the opening game, Praput responded with characteristic calmness to reduce the early deficit into a commanding 3-1 advantage. It was a vital 5th Game requiring only three more scoring shots with the red in play. But an untimely and unusual unforced error on a long In-Off provided Rupesh with his life-line. Requiring 83 points for game, Rupesh displayed his resilience in winning that crucial game with an unfinished 83. From thereon Praput started to falter whilst shah grew from strength to strength winning the last two games and the match with a commendable tactical play.
