Nay
Thway Oo from Myanmar stepped into the knockout Quarter Finals of
ONGC 12th Asian Billiards championship being held in Indore Tennis
Club, Indore, Madhya Pradesh in India.
Today in the match to qualify despite having lead of 3 games to 1
against India's Dhvaj Haria, Nay Thway Oo faced threat of losing
when Dhvaj put in all efforts and pulled him into decider game.
After taking initial two games, Dhvaj scored a break of 92 points in
third to narrow the deficit but Nay replied with a century break to
maintain the lead. After that, Dhvaj fought extremely well and
clinched the fifth game by mere 4 points and then in next game
produced a break of 74 to level the match. His all efforts went in
vain when in the decider game Nay Thway Oo produced a break of 71
points to close the doors for Dhvaj.
On
the other side, B. Bhaskar from India won his match against Fan Kian
Sang from Singapore 4-1. Bhaskar started well in the first game
producing a break of 86 points but the next game Fan played a much
controlled game and to level 1-1.
Knowing the importance of this match, Bhaskar did not give any loose
string and produced back to back two breaks of 91 and 100 points to
raise the lead by 3-1. By that time Fan left with nothing to do and
lost the last game too against Bhaskar.
In
Under-21 Snooker event, Rahul Sachdev remained unlucky and lost the
decider frame. This is his second consecutive defeat in the
championship.
Rahul played against player from Hongkong, Wan Nansen Sin Man and
from 0-2 down, Rahul fought well and leveled the match 2-all. Wan
claimed the fifth frame but again Rahul proved his skills and
leveled 3-all. In the decider Wan bettered him over Rahul and walked
away with match win.
The
shocking upset was of former Under-21 World Champion, Noppon
Saengkham, who lost to Lu Ning of China 2-4. Though Noppon produced
an 83 points break in third frame, but Lu Ning controlled throughout
the match and produced a century break of 106 points to shatter
Noppon.
Hamza Akbar from
Pakistan played his first match today and faced a defeat against Ko
Htet of Myanmar 2-4. Though he bettered him in the evening session
and defeated India's Malkeet Singh 4-1. During the journey he
produced back to back breaks of 78 and 96 points to seal the match.
