and Under-21 Snooker gets off to a great start

The prestigious ONGC 13th Asian Billiards and 15th Under-21 Asian
Snooker Championship got off to a great start today here at the UT
Guest House, Sector 6, Chandigarh with the Chief Guest, Mr. Anil
Kumar, Home Secretary, Chandigarh playing the ceremonial shot on the
billiards table. The Guest of Honour was Mr. Mukesh Gupta of SYNCO.
The Championship has been organized by the Punjab Billiards and
Snooker Association under the aegis of the Asian Confederation of
Billiard Sports (ACBS) and Billiards and Snooker Federation of India
(BSFI) and will culminate on June 13, 2014. Teams from the
participating countries including Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand,
Singapore, Hongkong, UAE, Syria, Korea, Sri Lanka, Mynamar, Iran and
India were felicitated on the occasion.
Speaking on the
occasion, Mr. Anil Kumar said that it was indeed a proud moment for
Chandigarh to be hosting such a world-class event. He lauded the
efforts of PBSA in bringing the Championship to the City Beautiful.
According to
Mr. D S Bains (IAS), President, PBSA, “Internationally renowned cue
sports players from 14 countries are participating in this
Championship and the people of the region can witness world-class
talent in action. We hope that more International Champions like
Alok Kumar will emerge as such prestigious Tournaments is organized
in the region.” Mr. Bains also thanked all the sponsors including
ONGC, SYNCO, SEL etc for their support.
Meanwhile few the important matches held today where Former World
Champion, Rupesh Shah (India) and Thawat Sujaritthurakarn (Thailand)
had won their respective matches in Billiards discipline.
In Under-21 Snooker, Dhvaj Haria (India), Ishpreet Chadha (India)
and Siyavosh Mozayani (Iran) had straight wins 4-0 against their
respective opponents.
