Indian Tiger Rules Asian Team Snooker

 

 

Team India retained the Asian Team Championship title by defeating the host, Pakistan-A 3-1 (104-(70)-00, 95(91)-01, 26-99, 83-43), held in Karachi.

 

This was the second edition of Asian Team Championships and India A, represented by Kamal Chawla, Dharminder Singh Lilly and Faisal Khan, reached the finals by defeating Iran in Semis and Syria in Quarter finals.

 

In first frame of the finals, Faisal Khan outclassed former world champion, Muhammad Asif crafting 70 points break, while in the next frame, Kamal Chawla also crafted a break of 91 points to defeat Muhammad Sajjad and gain 2-0 lead. However, in the doubles India lost but again in reverse singles, Faisal Khan closed the proceedings by defeating Muhammad Sajjad 83-43 to retain title for the consecutive year. Last year the Indian team won the title was comprises of Alok Kumar, Manan Chandra and Brijesh Damani.

 

Earlier in the semi finals, India A defeated Team Iran 3-2 whereas Pakistan A knocked out Thailand 3-2.

 

The prize distribution ceremony was joint for Asian Team and Asian 6Reds, where Amir Sarkhosh of Iran lifted winners trophy for Asian 6Reds championship he won on Wednesday, 20th August. He had defeated Boonyarit Kaettikun of Thailand winning decider frame of final 7-6. Joint bronze went to Hamza Akbar of Pakistan and Hossein Vafaei Ayouri of Iran..
