Vidya Viswanath Pillai “Naam Hi Kaafi hai” (name itself enough)

For those who does not follow cue-sports, she is an ace Indian women cueists, who constantly brought in laurels to India by winning International medals time and again in last one decade.

Whenever, Indian women contingent goes abroad, atleast this girl is a trusted name that she will certainly return with a medal. The same happened last night as well at Eden World Women Snooker Championship, where she reached in the final and was all set to clinch the gold with a lead of 4-2 but unfortunately couple of unforced errors gave hold to Hong Kong’s best bet and former World Champion, Ng On Yee and she won next three frames in a row to take 5-4 lead. Though it was not much concern for Vidya as she won another frame to set decider.

After scoring 22 points in decider, Vidya gave a chance to Ng On Yee, which she converted into a break of 36 to take lead of 42-22. With 67 remaining on board, Vidya returned with a magnificent comeback but fall short by 4 points with score on board 54-50 in favour of Ng On Yee, which she later converted into her victory by potting the required pink.

With that Vidya settled for Silver and certainly made India proud once again by winning the first International Medal for India in 2017.

To reach the final, Vidya cleared all league matches and later knocked out former European Champion, Tatjana Vasiljeva of Latvia 4-1 (Last-16), Katrina Wan of Hong Kong 4-1 (Quarter Finals) and Rebecca Grenger of England 5-1 (Semi Final)

Worth to mention, in 2016 total 26 cueists won International medals. Out of that Vidya pulled out one Gold and three Silver.
