India-Pakistan Peace Cup Snooker in December 2007
The third
edition of Peace Cup snooker tournament, which had been postponed
twice, will be staged by India in the first week of December, it was
announced on Monday. Billiards and Snooker Federation of India
officials held discussions with visiting Pakistan Billiards and
Snooker Association President Ali Asghar Valika and decided that the
the competition would be held in December 2007 with the venue yet to
be decided. "India will host the Peace Cup
Snooker in the first week of December," BSFI Vice-President
Ravi K. Tandon said. The Peace Cup was initially postponed due to
the massive earthquake that rocked the region in 2005 and later
could not be held due to a series of bomb blasts in Mumbai.
Thereafter, non-availability of players due to the Doha Asian Games
and other international events prevented its staging. The two sides
also announced that they will host the inaugural triangular snooker
series, involving United Arab Emirates as the likely third team, in
2008.
"We will be hosting a triangular snooker
series next year with India and another country from the
sub-continent. But we can also involve UAE or any other country,"
said Valika, who will also meet various business groups to sponsor
the events. "UAE has a large upcoming talent
pool in cue sports," said Valika, an advisor to the UAE
government on sports, said. He is also the Executive Vice-President
in the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports.
