With every passing year, Pankaj Advani has
proved that he was born to achieve. On Saturday night he proved it
yet again. He beat compatriot Rupesh Shah 5-4 to annex the Asian
Billiards title in Myanmar. En-route he also became the first Indian
to claim the title twice.
This title could not have come at a better time.
Looking back in less than six months, Advani has conquered almost
every billiards title up for grabs. The National title, the world
title (time format) and now the Asian crown.
The 22-year-old Bangalore boy's story is that of
courage to be himself. The courage he has shown from the tender age
of 11. State government accolades and appreciations have been far
and few for this Khel Ratna awardee, but that has hardly proved to
be stumbling block in his illustrious career. At a time when the
cricket crazy country is reveling in the cricketainment called the
Indian Premier League, Advani has made his country proud again. Like
always, he made his cue do the talking, but how many have listened
to the sound of success coming from his cue? Lets stand up and
applaud our new Asian Champion. Atta boy.
