Advani wins the
first leg of RKG Pro Snooker Series 2015
The maiden leg of
the innovative RKG Pro Snooker Series 2015 came to an end with
12-time World Champion Pankaj Advani lifting the title. Advani beat
top seed Kamal Chawla 6-2 (78-64, 56-29, 86-00, 69-62, 134(133)-00,
34-73, 67-70, 86-40 to pocket home winner's purse of Rupees One Lakh
while Chawla bagged Rs. 70,000.
After the highly successful North Zone Championship where 101
matches were played, the caravan will now move to Sports Club of
Gujarat, Ahmedabad (April 10 to 19). The Delhi leg saw a total of
102 players competing for top honours. The tournament based on
ranking points as per Cue Sports India Ranking is expected to turn a
new leaf as far as snooker in India is concerned. The series
attracts total prize money of Rs.21 Lakh and is being jointly
organised by Vivek Pathak (Cue Sports India) and Yasin Merchant (Yasin
Merchant Snooker Academy) and Padma Poddar (Sport India).
This is the first time where tournaments are interlinked on ranking
structure for Indian players. It allows young and upcoming players a
level playing field.
After Ahmedabad, the series will be held at Chennai's Cosmopolitan
Club (May 02 to 10) and Kolkata's Bengal Rowing Club (May 17 to 30).
The top 32 players of overall ranking after fourth leg will then
play in the grand finale to be held at the iconic Cricket Club of
India in Mumbai from June 10 to 14.
