INDIA RETURNS HOME WITH BUCKET-FULL OF MEDALS

This Saturday, India felt proud once again when Indian cueists stepped on the podium to receive bucket-full of medals for India in all categories of World Team Snooker and 6Reds Championship 2018 held at the coast of Red Sea in Marsa Alam, Egypt.

Team India sent a heavy contingent and out of them former Asian Billiards and Snooker Champion, Arjuna Awardee Alok Kumar, former Asian Games Gold Medalist Rafath Habib, Current Asian Women Snooker Champion, Amee Kamani, former World Women Team Champion Vidya Pillai and the National ranking players Divya Sharma, Aayush Kumar won medals in their respective categories.

In the World 6Reds Men Snooker Championship, Alok Kumar earned Bronze medal by reaching in the semi-finals. In this championship, Alok competed against much younger players and used his vast experience with sheer dedication to win almost all the matches one-sided. He could’ve been in to the final but struggled in all five frames of semi-final despite obtaining decent lead in those frames and lost 0-5 to eventual winner Passakorn Suwannawat of Thailand.

In women category, Amee Kamani also entered in the medals round but lost to the eventual winner Waratthanun Sukritthanes 2-4. At one stage, Amee was leading 2-1 but thereafter lack of concentration and limited opportunities, she lost back to back 3 frames and rested with bronze.

The team championship finished five days before where competition was in three disciplines i.e. Men, Women and Masters.

Indian men team comprises of Divya Sharma and Aayush Kumar earned bronze medal after losing semi-final match to Hong Kong team Chau Hon Man and Lee Tsz Ho. They both appeared first time in any International Snooker championship outside India and are now the second team in Indian history who have earned any medal from World Men Team Snooker Championship. Earlier the pair of Brijesh Damani and Kamal Chawla were bronze medalist in the same competition held in the year 2016 at Sharm-el-Sheikh.

In Women’s team category, current Asian champion, Amee Kamani and former world team champion Vidya Pillai secured silver medal by playing final of the World Team Snooker Championship. In the final they lost to Thai girls Waratthanun Sukritthanes and Siripaporn Nuanthakhamjan.

The Masters category was represented by Alok Kumar and Rafath Habib and they both reached the finals to settle for Silver. The pair lost to Thailand team Suckakree Poomjang and former World Champion Phisit Chandsri.

With these titles, the Indian cueist gave another reason of smile with pride to every Indian on the dusk of 2018.

Cue Sports India wishes everyone merry Christmas and advance wishes for the new year 2019. We hope our cueists will keep striding next year to win many more medals.
