Hyderabad: 15.12.2007 - Last year's Sub Junior snooker champion , the effervescent cueist from Nagpur, Shravan Mohta was on centre stage on Saturday here at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Indoor stadium, YusofGuda as the 2007 National billiards & snoker championship entered its second week with the start of the Juniors billiards event and the Qualifying Rounds for the main Seniors snooker championship.

 

In the juniors billiards event Shravan laid low Dwaj Haria by 516-42 points and then in the Seniors snooker qualifying section he outplayed Vinod Kumar in straight frames with some cracking pots to easily win by 73-12, 50-35 and 58-14 points.

 

Juniors biliards champion from PSPB, Shahbaz Adil Khan was consistence personified as he piled breaks over breaks to thrash Vidit Gawri by 743-217 points in a match which saw Shabaz collect his points mainly from the red pots from the spot even though his all round game was also not lacking. Ameer Husain surprised the Sub - juniors billiards champion , Raunaq Vazirani edging him out by 453-388 points to kep his chances alive.

 

Delhi champion, Pushpender Singh earned a narrow victory in the hotly contested affair over JR Pranit beating him by a whisker at 468-452 points while in a cliff hanger Aayush Kumar of Punjab piped Ankit Kanwal at the post by a mere 18 points at 461-443 points.

 

In the seniors snoker qualifiers, Ketan Chawla beat CRS Shastri in five frames at 57-42, 71-27, 44-58, 30-55 and 79-39 points in a tie which had the spectators on the edge of their seats.Harpreet Singh led by two frames to nil when Nishad Chowgule struck back to take the third and fourth frames and level up at 2-2. Nonetheless, Harpreet keeping his cool potted in an emphatic manner to wrest the fifth and deciding frame to win by 78-07, 52-19, 32-56, 29-49 and 67-23 points.

 

Chaitanya was in a focussed state of mind as he fought back from a 1-2 frames deficit to knock out Divyesh Inamdar by pocketing the fourth and fifth frames with a confident potting display and sound tactical safety ploy to come out on top by 51-43, 42-72, 47-85, 74-35 and 66-42 points while in another fully extended match which pleased the snooker lovers, Anand Raghu Vamshi beat Kunal P Rokade. Tied at 2-2 the decider was an engrosser  as both players lapsed into errors affected by the tense battle before Anand making the better use of the chances that came his way clinched the tie by wrapping up the frame and winning by 78-63, 53-63, 58-18, 24-51 and 48-21 points to end a memorable evening.
