Hyderabad: 17.12.2007 - Promising young cueist from Nagpur, Shravan Mohta cornered the spotlight in the 2007 National billiards & snooker championship being played here at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Indoor stadium in Yusufgoda on Monday as he won two matches to qualify for the main draw of the Seniors snooker championship.

 

Shravan first quelled the challenge of the seasoned campaigner from Railways, Shyam Jagtiani by 58-55, 17-76, 47-39, 55-58 and 78-47 points and then took no time in handing out a straight frames defeat to Vittal Rathode in straight frames by 78-31, 70-45 and 86-31 points to make the snooker main draw.

 

Andhra's S, Praveen Kumar was at his best chalking up a neat break of 57 in the deciding frame to nullify the strong fightback of Ankit Kariwala of Bengal playing some sterling snooker. potting and positioning the cue ball in an impressive manner, Trailing by two frames , Ankit did make a solid rally to take the third and fourth frames piling up a break of 50 to draw level  at 2-2 but unmindful, Praveen exhibited solid potting to seize the initiative and pocket the fifth decider for his win.

 

Rishab Pandaya came back brilliantly to take the third and fourth frames before conceding the first two frames to Nagesh. Nevertheless it was the ability to play positive and pot strongly to win the frame and match with consummate ease in the end. Nikhil Ootam the lanky player from Maharashtra the state of Rishab, trailing by 1-2 frames in a splendid potting spree rallied effectively to outplay Nitin by 48-49, 56-24, 59-65, 58-27 and 70-12 points to win with consummate ease in the end.

 

Dipak Rupani leading by 2-0 almost made hash of things as he frittered away the advantage to allow Vijay Kumar come back and win the third and fourth frames. However, he made amends by playing a tight game in the decider and overcome Vijay eventualy in a very tight situation . Dipak finally won by 66-21, 53-33, 45-57, 36-54 and 50-36 points to qualify.

 

Also making the grade was Chetan Chabra who was down by 1-2 frames before he mixed his poting with some good safety moves on course to a win in the five frams match by 40-79, 64-58, 21-67, 58-32 and 60-25 points.

 

In the Juniors billiards league stage Shabaz Adil Khan of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board continuing his fine run notched up breaks of 50 and a 67 in the proces of outclassing Kunal Agarwal by 866-524 points in the three hours tie while in another match, Aditya Agarwal managed to get the better of Manish Jain after a tense battle of attrition by 711-604 points.
