Hyderabad: 21.12.2007 - Kanishk Jhanjariya whose hand shakes deceptively before his cue delivery surprised everyone as he ended the winning spree of TamilNadu's Girish here on Friday morning at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Indoor stadium, Yousufguda when he knocked out Girish in the Seniors snooker event of the 2007 National snooker championship winning the best of seven frames by 72-42, 36-52, 77-21, 60-20 and 66-33 points.

 

Playing a tight game and unrelenting, Railways, Ashok Shandilya outclased Nagpur youngster, Shravan Mohta in four straight frames by 63-31, 57-48, 74-02, and 70-41 points. Geet Sethi of Gujarat just dropped one frame on way to a 53-23, 64-52, 12-70, 77-35 and 65-41 points victory over young Shahbaz Adil Khan of PSPB while former World snoker champion, Pankaj Advani romped home against Sandep Gulati of Delhi in style by 41-75, 59-29,60-11, 61-54 and 62-15 points.

 

Antim Singhi of Tamil Nadu had to sweat before overcoming Rishabh Pandya of Maharashtra in a keenly fought match in which had not Rishabh lapsed in the sixth frame towards the end the story could have been diferent. Antim finally won by 55-38, 70-38, 63-70, 60-29, 37-50, and 68-55 points.

 

Defending National champion, Alok Kumar of PSPB playing a compact game mixing solid safety with precision was a bit too hot for the young Ashish Dhanda from Punjab who could only virtually watch in admiration as Alok strode confidently towards the winning goal. Alok's teammate, Manan Chandra of PSPB was in his usual fluent form at the expense of the Karnatka youngster, D. Rajkumar in straight frames by 79-12, 62-54, 64-28 and 81-36 points.

 

But the match which held the attention of everyone was the marathon batle of attrition between Rupesh Shah of the Railways and Divya Sharma of Haryana. Doubling a two cushion shot into the centre pocket after safety exchanges, he also took the second frame for a 2-0 lead but Rupesh who has tons of patience clawed back resolutely to win the next four frames in a row to get the beter of the young Divya by 41-48, 09-54, 65-13, 82-33, 63-36 and 66-35 points.

 

Former Asian Champion, Yasin Merchant was a bit too good for M. S. Arun of Karnatka as Yasin potting in stle and with complete asurance swept through for a straight frames win by 66-21, 74-0, 106-18 and 63-22 points. All winners entering the last sixteen stage with their victories.

 

In the Juniors section, Rovin D'Souza had to struggle to override Vivek Chopra of Punjab, the match going down the wire before Rovin emerged victorious by 81-30, 0-81, 64-50, 40-63 and 65-40 points. Miya Bashir of Jammy and Kashmir, scored a well scripted victory over Ashish of the hosts Andhra by 55-16, 33-62, 61-33 and 48-29 points but his teammate, Mudassar Aashiq was not so lucky as he went down to Jharkhand's Ravi Sharma in straight frames. Ravi won by 69-32, 39-26 and 58-23 points.

 

Ali of Karnatka won over David of West Bengal in four frames by 66-52, 68-33, 38-49 and 56-26 points while Sujit of Andhra also had an easy time over Kamal Prabhat of Bihar winning in straight frames by 58-16, 57-19 and 56-05 points. Pranit of Tamil Nadu also had a good win over Konark Bansal of Uttar Pradesh. the other player from the state, Kuldeep Chandiramani also faling by the wayside in four frames to Satbir Singh of Maharashtra by one frames to three.
