Impeccable Nikhil Ootam bags top honour

Mumbai: Cricket Club of India’s Nikhil Ootam  proved his class as he outwitted and outplayed Rishab Pandya to claim top honours in the 4-player senior snooker league in the Malabar Hill Club-State senior snooker/Billiards Selection tournament, hosted by Malabar Hill Club on Saturday. With this win, Nikhil remained unbeaten in the four-player league, which was reduced to 3-player as the top seed Amit Saboo conceded walkovers to all his rivals

Confident looking  Nikhil hardly  gave his rival from Bombay Gymkhana any hope as he dominated  for the major part of this concluding tie before he won 55-33, 67-41, 23-66. 88-5,19-52. 68-30. Rishab, just 21, did put up plucky display, especially in the third and fifth frames, which he won. Even in the second frame, he had his moments as he led initially, but then Nikhil brought all his experience to fight back with telling effect to clinch it. And in the fourth and sixth frames, Nikhil notched up as breaks of 56 and 45 which totally floored Rishab.

On Sunday there will be no matches. The billiards event will resume on Monday.
