Seasoned Arun Agarwal outplayed seasoned Chandu Shah to emerge champion in the concluding tie between the two unbeaten players in the 4-player league of the Malabar Hill Club-State senior snooker/Billiards Selection tournament, hosted by Malabar Hill Club on Tuesday.

The contest between two experienced stalwarts, which went in favour of Arun 150-111, 150-55, 150-59, 15—113, however, failed to produce any thrill as Arun, who nordmally likes to go the shots,  appeared to adopt safety tactics, which somehow, rattled Chandu a lot. He frequently missed scoring chances.  This resulted in  neither of them being able to notch  up any big breaks – mostly their attempts resulted in breaks of  20s and 30s.

In the earlier ties, Chandu’s onslaught had stumped  North India Association’s Mahesh Jagdale, who just failed to reproduce the form  that has helped him to overcome home favourite Rajeev Sharma  in the quarterfinals,  beat him 150-61, 150-96, 150-69, 150-122 and then with consistent breaks of 40s and 50s, he ended Vishal Madan, of Chembur Gymkhana, good run with  a 75-150, 150-45, 150-59, 1561-29, 152-104 win.

Arun, however, was at his best. He comprehensively beat first Mahesh 150-25, 150-14, 153-69, 152-111 and then found himself in a bit of a spot against Chembur Gymkhana’s Vishal Madan, before winning at 151-84, 150-89, 150-81, 116-150, 150-13.
