Geet Sethi wins 2nd Selection Trial, Pankaj retains overall Top Position

Nine times world champion Geet Sethi who was ranked fifth in the first selection tournament consolidated his position to a great extent by winning the second billiards selection tournament ,for 2010 Asian Games ,being played  here at The CLUBE TENNIS DE GASPAR DIAS , Miramar – Goa.

This win will certainly help Sethi to remain in contention for a birth in the two member Indian contingent for English Billiards Singles at 2010 Asian Games to be held in China.

In the morning session against Advani, Sethi compiled  83 points in the very first game and fell short of  just 17 points to clinch the game as Advani immediately replied with a break of 71 to go ahead by 1-0. Unperturbed by the result of the first game, Sethi sprang back in the second  with great vigour  and fired a lethal blow of 102 to level the proceedings. The third game saw Geet  bouncing around the table like a teenager and kept on scoring point after point exhibiting gossamer touch at the top of the table and scored yet another century break to go ahead by 2-1. Advani who was reduced to a mere spectator in the last two games could not get a chance to come back into the match thereafter as Geet in the fourth hammered the final blow of an unfinished 100 by unfolding of a vast repertoire of strokes to win the match by 3-1.

Rupesh Shah in the last match of the day pipped Shandilya at the post 3-2  to become rank 2 in the tournament.

B. Bhaskar  who had a dismal outing in the first selection where he got the ninth rank greatly consolidated his position by winning five out of eight league matches played in the tournament and got the third place in the tournament. Today he played brilliantly to overcome Devendra Joshi , Ashok Shandilya and Sourav Kothari.
