02.06.2015 :: Akshay Gohad Six Red Snooker Championships from June 4

 

112 players including Indian National No.2, Varun Madan; India No.2 6Reds Snooker, Rahul Sachdev; former Asian Champion Devendra Joshi, will be seen in action at the First ever Akshay Gohad 6Reds Snooker championships which will be hosted jointly by the PYC Hindu Gymkhana and the Deccan Gymkhana on their tables from June 4 to June 9.

The event which is being organised in memory of upcoming and city’s young snooker player Akshay Gohad who passed away recently. The secretary of PYC Hindu Gymkahna, Mr Kumar Tamhane and Tournament Director Salil Deshpande stated in a note that the event will become an annual feature for the next five years . The event will offer total prize money of Rs.2 Lakh.

"We have received very good response from players for the inaugural event having received entries from Delhi, Bengaluru, Indore, Chennai, Lucknow, Kolkatta, Mumbai, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Aurangabad apart from Pune" added Deshpande.

Varun Madan has been given the top seeding for the event followed by Ketan Chawla of Indore, while Rahul Sachdeva of Mumbai will be seeded third followed by Delhi's Pushpinder Singh, and Laxman Rawat. State players Anand Raghuwanshi, Nimish Ranade, Suraj Rathi, Abhijit Ranade, Aditya Deshpande, Samar Khandelwal are the players who will be seen in action.

Mr. Arun Barve, the organizing secretary added that the event will be played on a knock out basis with matches being played in 7 frame format till the quarterfinals and 9 frame format from then onwards till the finals.


The event will be inaugurated by the parent of late Akshay Gohad, Ajit and Yashodara Gohad, on June 4.
