Alok Kumar - PSPB
Former national champion Alok Kumar of PSPB rallied from a 5-9 deficit
to storm into the final of Otters Club All India 9-Ball Pool Tournament
2016.
Leading 4-1 following a dream start in the first semi-final against
Faisal Khan of Railways, Alok surprisingly went down 5-9 after missing
multiple opportunities.
On the other side Faisal maintained a steady lead and held on grimly at
10-6 and 11-9 before his troubles began in the 21st rack where he fouled
on brown (7) Alok recovered to 10-11.
Pressure has started mounting on Faisal and again he missed the red (3)
and Alok capitalized to level the match 11-all.
Though Faisal kept his hopes alive with a 12-11 lead when Alok missed
the black (8) but later he came back strongly once again to push Faisal
on the back seat and set the stage for a nail-biting finish. In decider,
Alok potted the orange (5) that sank in tantalizingly and in the process
changed the script for a dramatic 13-12 win.
In the final, Alok will now meet the foreign invitee player, Kelly
Fisher from England. Kelly knocked out Delhi based Monu Chaudhary 13-5
to reach the final.
Kelly Fisher - England
In the second semi-final, Monu won the first rack but after that Kelly
changed the entire scenario and maintained good lead of 9-3. Though Monu
managed to clinch two more racks but it was too late for him to recover
as Kelly was quick to seal the match 13-5.
