Talwar score back to back wins
Asian Games silver medalist Brijesh Damani boost the chances with back to
back wins in the group league of the final leg of Indian Open qualifier
being played at PYC Hindu Gymkhana, Pune .
Damani ousted former Asian Games gold medalist, Rafat Habib (Railways) 4-1
in a late night match yesterday, while today he accounted for another
Railways player R. Girish 4-2. Other players unbeaten so far are, Asian
team championship gold medalist Dharminder Lilly and versatile cueist
Sumit Talwar.
Lilly registered a 4-2 win over Delhi's Anuj Uppal yesterday, he blossomed
in the second match to win with an identical score against Siddharth
Parikh of Railways.
Talwar, however, had a cliff-hanger match on day two against Delhi's
Sundeep Gulati. The match stretched till the decider frame that Sumit
conquered 54-15 to ascertain his berth for knockouts (Last-12).
Another close match that went till the decider frame was between Tamil
Nadu's J.Varun Kumar and Maharastra's Hasan Badami. The entire match swung
like a pendulum where Varun Kumar edged past Badami winning decider frame
63-37
However, another player from Maharashtra, Laxman Rawat scored a good break
of 71 in the third frame while ousting Tamil Nadu's Vijay Nichani 4-1.
