Brijesh Damani succeeds to get top-seed for Kolkata Open knockouts

Kolkata based Brijesh Damani of IOCL gets the top-seed slot for the single elimination round of the Kolkata Open Invitation Snooker Championship 2022 ongoing at The Calcutta Swimming Club in Kolkata.

Brijesh was in Group C and obtained the best average amongst all other players. He ends his round robin journey with all three match wins at the deficit of 4 frames to accumulate +8 points. He won 4-1, 4-2 and 4-1 against S. Dilip Kumar of Railways, Manan Chandra (BPCL) from Delhi and Vijay Nichani from Tamil Nadu.

His colleague from IOCL Laxman Rawat and BPCL player S. Shrikrishna had same points and after lots, Laxman got the second seed and Shrikrishna with 3rd seed.

Laxman won today's match 4-3 against current National champion Ishpreet Singh. At one stage, Laxman was down 1-3 and had faced breaks of 70 and 52 in third and fourth frames but after that he accelerated with breaks of 68 and 64 to set the decider where he just reached ahead of Ishpreet by 12 points 64-52.

On the other hand, Dhvaj started his match with a magnificent century break of 111 points in the first frame against S. Shrikrishna. He continued on the same stride and crafted another break of 62 points to cement his lead 2-0.

In the third frame, Shrikrishna made a recovery with a break of 40 points and then pulled the closely fought fourth frame too (67-54) to level the match again.

After these two frames loss, Dhvaj started struggling and Shrikrishna continued to dominate the match. He succeeded to take 5th frame 66-20 and then 44 points break in sixth frame to close the proceedings 4-2.
