Champion, Sourav Kothari of PSPB
All the leading billiards players those are vying for national billiards
title have started their campaign with straight win on the opening day of
senior billiards at BRC-GLOSTER National Billiards & Snooker Championship
here at Bengal Rowing Club, Kolkata.
The defending champion Sourav Kothari was the main attraction in the
morning session and he did not disappointed his vast supporters and won
his match in style. He outclassed S. Shankar Rao of Andhra Pradesh in
straight set of games 3-0. The second game was interesting where Shankar
Rao managed to reach quite close to 100 mark but Sourav dominated well and
scored 100 before Shankar could do so.
In third game, when Shankar missed on 49, Sourav did not give him second
chance and compiled an unfinished break of 100 points to sealed the match.
12 time world champion, Pankaj Advani also registered 3-0 win against
Subodh Lahiri of Uttar Pradesh.
Advani also scored a magnificent unfinished break of 104 points in third
game to close the match proceedings. This 104 break is the highest so far
today.
Another player of PSPB, Alok Kumar also had no difficulty in Rakesh
Pradhan of Odisha and won comfortably 3-0.
Kolkata based Brijesh Damani of PSPB played two matches today and both he
won convincingly. In first match he outclassed player from Jharkhand,
Anseth Pareira 3-0 scoring two breaks of 75 and 68 in first two games.
Later he beat D. Rajkumar of Karnataka 3-0 (100-79, 100-65, 100-48)
Other players from Kolkata struggled today. Where Shahbaaz Adil Khan (PSPB)
and Shyam Jagtiani (WB) lost their matches to Railways players Rafath
Habib and Neeraj Kumar 0-3, Aamer Hussain somehow managed to save the
decider and match from C. Vijayaram of Tamil Nadu 3-2.
